But the real game-changer was the upper deck, frequently used by airlines as a bar/lounge where passengers could drink, smoke and network. To access the upper deck, passengers would ascend a lavish spiral staircase, which reportedly took inspiration from the Boeing Stratocruiser. Some airlines replaced the lounge later with a formal dining room, inaccessible during takeoff and landing, but available for a lavish dining experience once the plane was at cruise.

The home of the Bramante staircase, the Pio-Clementine Museum was built in the 18th century and was commissioned by Pope Clement XIV. This museum displays a collection of sculptures that was originally started by Pope Julius II. The building was created by architects Alessandro Dori, Michelangelo Simonetti, and Giuseppe Camporese and was embellished by various artists and decorators. The collection was vastly expanded following excavations at various archaeological sites that unearthed Ancient Roman treasures that had been hidden for centuries. The museum not only displays these wonderful artefacts but has also restored many of them to their former glory. At the end of the 1700s, many of the artworks were removed and taken to Paris following the Treaty of Tolentino, however many of these have now been returned to the gallery.

Unfortunately, the original staircase is limited for viewing, only allowing an exclusive number of visitors. If you are lucky enough to view this ancient structure, you cannot walk along the ramps but can view the spirals from above. To marvel at the master craftsmanship on such an ancient structure is amazing, to say the least. The modern staircase is available to view and walk on throughout the week, acting as an exit/entrance to the museum. Take the iconic spiral photo of the stairs when you reach the very top.

If this is a typical stair with a full degree of rotation of 270 degrees, you can instead import and use the spiral staircase template. To view the instructions, go to Download a template from the Online Sketch Gallery.

While spiral staircases and fire poles are historically related to fire stations, there was a time before they were commonplace. Their implementation and popularity makes sense given the time frame when these older stations were built and the equipment utilized to respond to a fire.

In the 1850s, American fire departments transitioned from the hand-pump trucks to the much heavier steam-powered fire engines. These new, more efficient, higher water capacity trucks were pulled by horses. While the horses were stabled downstairs with the engines, the firemen slept and cooked upstairs. Horses would follow the food smells and climb the stairs. To prevent the horses from doing this, the firemen installed spiral staircases.

The beautiful spiral staircase has eighty steps and is 28 meters high. It spans six floors and is made of red bricks and white stone (arches, columns and balustrade). Although the stairs do not offer a view of the Canal Grande at any height, the stairs are still of value because of its location. It is located exactly halfway between the economic center of Venice (Rialto) and the Piazza San Marco. When Venice was a republic, the square used to be the political heart of the city. This also had a positive effect on the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo.

In the 19th century, Domenico Emery became the owner of the property and then the palace was transformed into an accommodation for guests. One of these guests was the German astronomer Wilhelm Tempel. He discovered important celestial bodies by making observations with his telescope from the top floor of the tower. This has given more fame to the palace with the spiral staircase. A fun fact is that this was the filming location for the Orson Welles film Othello (1951), based on the work of William Shakespeare.

The Dolle Toronto Gardenspin Spiral Staircase kit is tough enough to hold up to the rigors of the outside elements due to its sturdy construction of hot galvanized steel, but chic and modern enough to make any interior room a great conversation design topic. The Toronto Gardenspin spiral staircase is recommended for high frequent use indoors or outdoors and can be easily installed in about a day using common household tools.

Dvergr spiral right stair is a buildable structure. It is a quarter-turn segment of a spiral staircase, ascending in a clockwise direction. Multiple Dvergr spiral right stairs can be easily stacked in a rotating fashion to produce a spiral staircase of arbitrary height.

The Dvergr spiral right stair needs to be built within the range of a Black forge. There is also a mirrored version of this structure, the Dvergr spiral left stair, for building spiral staircases rotating in the opposite direction.

Curved staircases can be created in Chief Architect using the Curve to Left and Curve to Right stair tools. In addition to these tools, straight staircases can be curved by holding down the Alt or Option key on your keyboard. Spiral staircases are best created using the Spiral Staircase objects located in the library.

The wheel of life turns up and down throughout the experiences of life. Human nature is such that when you are on the top of the wheel, you are in good spirits. But in truth only a fool feels content, for the wheel of life is constantly turning. One who is on the bottom of the wheel and cries about his plight is also a fool, for he too is on the turning wheel. Do not be deceived by the fact that you may not see the wheel turning upward. Because the wheel of life is constantly turning. What today is at the bottom, will tomorrow be at the top. And like a spiral staircase, we turn our backs to the destination just before we reach its peak.
